SLIP HOUSE |  Introductory Project

ARCH 102 // SPRING 2011 // DAWN FINLEY

The concept I explored through this project was “Slipping,” a concept I defined as the interaction of spaces where defining elements are shifted off one another in a way that creates a distinct experience of physical, visual, or spacial movement. I explored the concept through three venues - formal (actual slipping of the plates), programmatic (circulatory movement inside the house), and mechanical (actual physical movement of my model).

ARCH 101 // FALL 2010 // NONYA GRENADER & DANNY SAMUELS

The gallery is split into thirds, with the central third open for circulation and views while the edge strips accommodate the gallery program. The facade reinforces this idea. The sides are split level, to allow for division of space and an economical use of the small area. A combination of  display overhangs and open floor plans allow for a flexible space, conducive to changing exhibits. A grand stair dominates the first level and penetrates through the facade. In the interior, it allows for a grand entrance into display exhibits while in the exterior, this allows for a gathering space separated and raised from the street level.
